Derek Flynn

Derek Grattan Flynn is a trial attorney with over twenty years’ experience trying cases to verdict across Texas and the United States. Derek has represented a wide variety of clients over his career. Derek started his career as an assistant district attorney for the Harris County District Attorney’s office. He began his private practice defending trucking companies, construction companies and corporations in complex personal injury and civil matters. Derek now represents individuals injured and harmed by the negligence of others.

Derek is a proud, native Houstonian. He graduated from St. John’s High School in Houston, Texas where he excelled athletically and academically. That led him to Wheaton College in Illinois where he played college football for four years. Derek finished his undergraduate degree at Baylor University. He then went on to South Texas College of Law where he obtained his doctorate of juris prudence. While in law school, Derek interned for the Office of the General Counsel for the Harris County District Attorney’s Office handling the fugitive extradition docket.

After graduating from law school, Derek accepted a position with the District Attorney’s Office as an assistant prosecutor and rose to the rank of Chief Prosecutor. Derek has been a partner at large civil defense law firms and in house counsel for an insurance company, which provides him a unique perspective into how insurance companies evaluate and handle personal injury claims.

Derek is admitted to practice in Texas and all federal courts in Texas, including the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Derek is also admitted to practice in the United State District Court for the Northern District of Florida and Indiana.

Derek was recognized as a Super Lawyer, Rising Star in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. Derek is also AV Preeminent rated by Martindale-Hubbell. This distinction is awarded to fewer than five percent of all attorneys across the United States, and it is the highest rating offered by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. This rating signifies that Derek has been recognized by his peers for his professional excellence, legal knowledge, communication skills and ethical standards.

Derek comes from a family of lawyers. He is an avid outdoors man and lover of live music all things Houston sports related. He is a father of three, and when he isn’t practicing law, you will likely find him at sports complexes across Texas cheering on his three children in their various sports endeavors.
